London Design Festival: The origin

LDF was an idea created by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans in 2003. The main goal was to create an annual event that would encourage the creativity of the city with the best professionals to celebrate design.

The first edition of the festival took place at Bloomberg in March 2003 and this year with the idea of converting London in the world’s design capital.

This year, as it celebrates its fifteenth edition, LDF wants to keep this vision ever strong.london design festival transmission alcantaraThe program includes international installations, trade events and a range of activities from both, cultural and commercial sides. Most of the events and activities are admission free enabling all the visitors to participate in the design movement.

Districts and tradeshows: All you need to know

The London Design Festival has confirmed nine districts through the city where visitors can walk around to enjoy and experiment design. Within walking distance of the District is the Victoria & Albert Museum, which will host many of the Festival’s 2017 landmark projects.

“Each of the nine districts allows you to immerse yourself in the design personality of each area. They are all distinct and different and reflect how varied London’s design story is. Above all, they offer an abundance of choice. You can discover a lot of new design all within a short walking distance of each other”,
says Ben Evan, director of London Design Festival.

The festival will also set the stage for the most important trade shows: 100% Design, Decorex, design junction, Focus/17 and The London Design Fair.
